I have always had a passion for Western Australia history with a particular interest in exploration and development. I am delighted to be a sponsor for the publication of a fascinating book ‘Work Completed, Canning’ : A comprehensive history of the Canning Stock Route. I am delighted to be a sponsor of the book ‘Work Completed, Canning’ : A comprehensive history of the Canning Stock Route. Having prospected the lower section of the CSR in 1977 and the area around Wells 20 and 21 in 1982, I have always had a fascination for the CSR’s rich and diverse history. This thoroughly researched and long overdue publication will provide CSR identities, scientists, family history researchers, travellers and anthropologists with ready access to all known CSR historical information in one comprehensively indexed and referenced book. Congratulations to Phil Bianchi, The Western Australian Explorers’ Diaries Project and Hesperian Press on this fine publication.

Mark Creasy, Prospector and Mining Entrepreneur.

The Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum is pleased to support the publication of ‘Work Completed, Canning’ : A comprehensive history of the Canning Stock Route by Phil Bianchi. Three interlinked reasons support the Department’s decision to provide support. Firstly, Alfred Canning, the hero of this book and while seconded to the then Department of Mines, undertook the surveying of the stock route between Wiluna and the Kimberley in 1906, and the subsequent construction of the wells in the period 1908 to 1910. Canning also typified the culture of efficient and self-effacing service to the public that exists today in staff of the Department of Mines and Petroleum. Finally, the Canning Stock Route is still used as an important access route to the eastern Canning Basin for today’s petroleum and mineral explorers and the Department’s role in its construction should be more widely known.

Rick Rogerson, Executive Director, Geological Survey of Western Australia.

The Shire of Wiluna is proud to be a sponsor of the publication of ‘Work Completed, Canning’:A comprehensive history of the Canning Stock Route, given the significance of this icon in Western Australia’s history and its link with the town of Wiluna and railway. The history will provide future generations with information about the use of this facility in times when transport by road and vehicles was very limited. The Shire is proposing to commence building an interpretive centre in Wiluna which focus on the Canning Stock Route and Gunbarrel Highway. This history will be use to assist in the production of information to be displayed in the new centre.

Land Surveyors Licensing Board of Western Australia

The Canning Stock Route was one of the first great infrastructure projects of the early days of Western Australia. Alfred Canning was a highly regarded Licensed Surveyor employed by then Department of Lands and Surveys (later to become Landgate and Department of Lands) and was recognised as a remarkable leader and man of great resilience and tenacity. His understatement on finishing his task, ‘Work completed, Canning’, belies the exhaustive efforts of his team and the Aboriginal people who guided him. Phil Bianchi’s book will be an enduring tribute to all the people who, over the past one hundred years, have extended that initial investment to ensure the legacy of the Canning Stock Route is never lost. The Land Surveyors Licensing Board of Western Australia, on behalf of all surveyors, is pleased to support the publication of 'Work Completed, Canning.'  A comprehensive history of the Canning Stock Route.

Amesz Design

Amesz Design is delighted to be a sponsor of the book ‘Work Completed, Canning’. A comprehensive history of the Canning Stock Route by Phil Bianchi. Amesz Design’s long association with the Canning Stock Route commenced in 1976 when Amesz Tours ran the first of many guided tours along it. During the 1977 CSR tour we had 16 tourists on board, a number of which were over the age of 60. When a 67 year old was asked why he took part in such an arduous trip; ‘It’s the spice of adventure’, he replied. Today travelling the CSR has become a must do four wheel drive trip and the spice of adventure still holds true. Congratulations to Phil Bianchi, The Western Australian Explorers’ Diaries Project and Hesperian Press on this fine publication, a publication that will provide valuable information to travellers, tour operators, anthropologists, researchers and scientists.
